High-Octane Racing Spectacle Takes Over Singapore’s Premier Shopping Belt
Motorsport enthusiasts in Singapore will receive an early dose of high-speed adrenaline ahead of the upcoming Grand Prix. Over the weekend, one of the nation’s most iconic commercial thoroughfares, Orchard Road, will be repurposed into a temporary demonstration track for an exclusive motorsport festival.
Co-organized by athletic apparel giant Adidas and the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team, the two-day event titled ‘Adidas Orchard Ignition’ promises to bring the thunderous sound and raw power of elite racing directly to urban spectators free of charge.
Live Track Demonstrations and High-Speed Laps
The centerpiece of the weekend takes place on Sunday afternoon, when Mercedes driver Fred Vesti takes the wheel of a Formula One race car along a designated 600-meter straight. The temporary urban strip spans the stretch between Paragon and Tangs Plaza, giving fans a rare close-up view of open-wheel machinery navigating the city center.
Vesti is scheduled to conduct three separate live driving demonstrations throughout the afternoon:
- First Demonstration: 3:00 PM
- Second Demonstration: 3:30 PM
- Third Demonstration: 3:45 PM
Expressing his enthusiasm for the event, Vesti noted that he is eager to showcase the car’s capabilities on the street while creating an unforgettable memory for established fans and newcomers to the sport alike.
Celebrity Collaborations and Musical Lineups
The track action kicks off with an official flag-off ceremony featuring South Korean pop group Babymonster. Following the flag-off, the members of Babymonster will join Vesti inside a separate Mercedes road vehicle for a series of thrill-seeking hot laps along the course.
Entertainment continues into the evening at Design Orchard with a dedicated Fan Festival starting from 4:00 PM on Sunday. The stage will host live performances from homegrown Singaporean musical acts, including Benjamin Kheng and Iman Fandi. The festival will draw to a close with an energetic set spun by local producer and creator DJ Kiara. Furthermore, a select group of fans will participate in a private engagement session with Babymonster.
Behind-the-Scenes Access and Historical Context
Activities begin a day prior to the track runs. On Saturday, an interactive pop-up garage representing the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team will open outside the Adidas Brand Centre Orchard. Attendees gaining entry will receive a rare look at the technical mechanics and engineering procedures required by pit crews to prepare a Grand Prix car for track activity.
This initiative represents the first live Formula One car demonstration on Singaporean city streets since 2011, when former driver David Coulthard steered a Red Bull show car down the stretch from Ion Orchard to Mandarin Gallery. While general public viewing along Orchard Road is completely free, exclusive access to elevated VIP observation platforms and special fan experiences are being distributed through promotional contests organized by Adidas Singapore.
